Sharon is an emerging ceramic artist who creates pieces inspired by the natural world. Her interest in nature began during her childhood in Malaysia, surrounded by lush rainforest. Sharon expanded on this early interest by studying biological science at university. After relocating to Australia, she trained and worked as a graphic designer. These experiences now influence her current art practice.
Sharon enjoys the physicality of working with clay, and the way the medium captures every nuance of movement whether intentional or accidental. As a recovering perfectionist, she also enjoys the process of “letting go” when a finished piece enters the kiln. The reactions that occur between the chemical components in the clay and glazes can produce unexpected results. This never-ending dance between control and chance fuels Sharon’s continued passion for pottery and ceramics.
